Catch-up post for 30 Day Fanfic Meme

19 – When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
Depends on the bunny, though lately, they all get shoved in the closet, unless I'm lucky enough to get one that fits to an assignment I have to do.

20 –Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?
I have quite often, actually, though only a few have actually seen the light of day.

21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?
Many.  Some because others asked for them, some because the characters fed me more of the story after the end of what I wrote, and some because of 20 above.
I think sequels have their place, though I do believe that the best sequels (or prequels) are those that were planned for.  When they're done because people push the writer into it, or to otherwise please fans, they never have the impact of the original fic.

22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?
I've done a Big Bang, and I've been in a few different fests.  But my favorite overall was the H/D Remix (which I am doing again this round), because I liked the format, and because the subject matter just works for me.  I can't wait to see the fics that get remixed, and you never know what will turn up.  Makes it that much more exciting. :D

23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
I generally only post here, though I keep trying to get my act together to archive everything at least one other place.  At the moment, the chosen place is AAOOO.  Though I've only managed to post a few fics there.  Need to get on that, really.

24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
I would most prefer three, but I rarely manage more than two, depending on who's available, and what I'm writing.
I do remember finding one beta who I absolutely adored because she called me on everything.  It was the first time I'd ever experienced that, and it was amazingly freeing, knowing that I could trust her to call me on it.  Unfortunately, she left the fandom soon after.  I've since found another few who I adore as much, but I do miss her...

25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
I tend to like to have music on, though I can't have the TV on or I get totally distracted.  I like to make playlists, especially when the characters are being difficult.  Helps me get into their mindset a bit more.

26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
Hm.  Not sure.  I could say names, which is easy, but gets complicated depending on why you're looking for a name, and for who, but that's too easy an answer for me because I love doing it.  Clothes is always fun.  Oh, I did have to research punk rock for a character once.  Even though he was pureblood, he decided that was his one Muggle vice.  That was lots of fun.  I didn't know much about it, and had only listened to a few songs myself, but it fit with his character very well.

I did this coming on three years ago now, but I think it's time it was updated.

My reading/writing preferences in HP fandom )

My Role in Fandom

So...this is something I've been meaning to re-do for ages now.  But especially since the move to IJ in August.

My number one priority in fandom is, has and always will be, fic.  Writing it, and still occasionally recing it.  I post the 13th of every month to [info]daily_deviant, and participate in random fests here and there.  And, on great occasion, I write something just because it desperately has to get written.

Modding -
I am an editor at [info]potter_prophet, which I contribute to each Sunday.
I mod the asylum [info]blaise_zabini, which accepts all fic, art, icons meta or other entries having to do with the dark-skinned Slytherin.
I also mod [info]hp_nano, which is a gathering place for those in the HP fandom participating in the yearly NaNoWriMo Challenge in November.

RP -
I co-mod the game [info]founders_legacy, where I play Draco and Blaise.
I also RP in a slightly different form at [info]rp_bad_boyz as Rabastan and Blaise.
And there's also still an older Draco in my head who snuggles with K's Harry.

Then there is [info]true_revenge, which [info]foodie and I have been slowly posting all our stories that started with a simple little idea I had about how Lucius might have proposed to Narcissa.

And [info]shadowhunt, which is the beginning of a pseudo-rp surrounding an idea [info]foodie had where Hestia Jones starts up a bounty-hunting agency after the war.

Then there's something that's not strictly fannish, but which I haven't mentioned in my journal until now--[info]writing_linkz.  It's nowhere near complete, and probably never will be.  It's invite-only to join, but anyone is free to watch.  Mostly, it's a place where I stash links that I think will be helpful in my writing.

Copied from [info]inell

I know I have a ton of new folks here on my lj, so I thought I'd reintroduce myself, and let you know a bit about what I read/write so that you don't get shocked when something pops up that you might otherwise never have expected of me. :D

I'm going to make my list a touch more complicated than [info]inell's, though, as I'm so all over the place with my pairings, and while I adore Draco, I went the opposite way she did with Hermione, though that seems to be changing a bit nowadays. ;)  I hope you'll bear with me in any case.

Yikes.  I think I've blathered on enough.  I wonder if it's too big to post now... :)  But I'm sure you all get the point, anyway.

Check it out

Lots of fun to play with: The Gender Genie.  You paste a passage, tell it what the passage is from, and it tries to guess the sex of the person who wrote it.

I actually fooled it the first time, but I used a short, and it says it works best on text of over 500 words.

Never tried this one before...

Let's see if anyone's even interested.

Ask any of the characters from any of my fics a question, and they will answer.

Sequels and prequels

So, when I started writing in the HP fandom (I'd barely written any fic before that), I wrote two pieces. True Revenge was basically my take on Narcissa's marriage to Lucius.  I had this scene come to me complete about how he proposed, and it just wouldn't let me alone, so I went with it.  I never intended it to have a sequel, and at the same time I was writing something much nearer and dearer to my heart: my very first slash story ever: Draco's Draught, which was Harry/Draco, of course.  I would have thought, if anything, there would be a sequel to DD, and never to TR, however, I have learned in the fullness of time, never to assume anything when it comes to what I will write.  TR convinced my co-writer, Foodie, to try her hand at it, and convinced her to read the books so that her Lucius story, a response to Narcissa's viewpoint, would be closer to canon than if she had simply gone with what she knew from the COS movie.  After that, she wrote a much longer piece that followed her story immediately, dealing with Lucius falling for a woman he couldn't control.  Which in turn caused me to write a story about Draco's response to all this.  It just amazes me how one little story can spawn so much.  Particularly a story I wasn't even really attatched to.

Foodie's since gone on to write a lot more in that universe, and created a future story with kids from those stories and from another story of my own about Ron and Hermione coming together after school.  And even without that story's connection to the TR universe, it seems to be spawning ficlets by the handful.  I wrote one about Harry alone at Ginny's wedding to Neville, and another about how Neville and Ginny got together.  Then today, I came across an idea I had during the Christmas rush: a fic based on the song "If You Were Gay" from Avenue Q, the musical.  Fred confronts George about why he never dates. :)  I don't usually have the ability to write a fic in one day, but it kind of grabbed me by the throat and said "Write Me!" so I did.  Anyway, I don't know what any of this means, except that it kinda blows my mind that these little scenes that started out as nothing stories have ended up spawning their own sub-universes....

You write realistic sex scenes. Wet spot and all.
What kind of sex scene do you write?
