Other Remarks )

Also, if anyone missed it before, I've a collection there I'd love to see more fic in, HP or not: BDSM Fanfiction (bdsm_fic). Anyone can add their fics to the collection. We're at 64 now. I'd love to see that at least double.

Fic year in review 2010

Not going to be around enough on Friday, so I decided to distract myself from unpleasant things by posting my fic year in review today.

Questions )

And only one fest fic this year. For daily deviant's Kinky Kristmas. Feel free to guess if you don't know because of prior knowledge. Drabble to the person who guesses right first.

Fandom 30 Day Meme part 2

2 – Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.

My first fanfic I can remember writing (I might have written Star Trek or Star Wars stuff before it, but I don't remember anything specific) was in Elfquest. Chock full of OCs that broke pretty much every rule there is for Mary Sues. Thank god none of it ever made it online.

Then in college, I did a piece on the Dollenganger Saga by VC Andrews, but just one poem, and not so much fanfic.

As I said yesterday, my first published piece was with [info]foodie in Voyager fandom.

We moved on to LotR, but I don't think I ever finished the fanfic I was writing, though she posted several about the Hobbits that I helped with.

And then I moved into HP, and never looked back. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many stories I've written in HP any longer. I've been writing HP stories for about 7 years now, if I'm counting right. HP is also my first slash fandom.

Since writing in HP, I've done a few drabbles in older fandoms--Buffy and Firefly, a bit more in Trek and Elfquest.

And then Someone introduced me to Youkko Nitta... I haven't written enough there, but I do love playing with those two characters...I need to write more. :D

And of course, Merlin, my newest love, which will be the subject of my NaNoWriMo this year. :D I've done maybe a dozen or so drabbles, and a couple of fics in the fandom, but I promise there will be more.

And I think that's the lot...though I'd probably be terrified by what I could unearth on my hard drive...

New Meme: 30-day fanfic writing meme

Yes, I am still alive. Deadlines staring me in the face, Christmas projects coming up, so I haven't had much of a chance to do much beyond writing and family tree work in a long time.

But I wanted to get something up here that's not just fic or ads for fests.

I made this myself after finding that a writing meme of the same sort that really didn't quite appeal to me. Feel free to snag and use if you'd like.

The Questions )

And today is the first, so here's #1:
1 – How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

I read fanfic long before I wrote, and I suppose it was only a matter of time before I started writing myself. I'd been a Star Trek fan since I was a kid, so when I finally got inspired, it was Star Trek I ended up writing in first. [info]foodie and I came up with an idea for a Star Trek Voyager story, and we had a great time writing it; so much that we even ended up writing a sequel.

But it wasn't until Harry Potter that I really took off.

Wrote two fest fics this season, if people are interested in guessing, and I would be willing to write fics for winners if they are guessed:
One for [info]daily_deviant's Kinky Kristmas.
And one for Camelot Solstice.

And while I'm at it, happy new year everyone! :)

Wordle prompts, round 2

So, two of the five have been identified -

#1 is Snapshots, and #4 is Please, Not a Ferret.

Words to focus on for #2: Ribbon, bow, softly, wrapped, bound.

Words to focus on for #3: Cock, understand, love, wait, begging, leash.

Words to focus on for #5: Wanted, Blaise, watched, pulled, time.

So...any more guesses?

Memeish sort of thing

New toy - Wordle. Makes word-clouds out of text you paste into their generator. So, to distract myself from coming unpleasantness, I present 5 of my fics in word-cloud form. And anyone who can guess which fic each of them is will be gifted with a drabble based on the fic in question, or on the recipient's own choice of prompt and pairing -- next week, after the unpleasantness is over. Simply click on the thumbnail, and you will be taken to a larger version of the image, where most words will be a bit more readable. The titles of the images are the only other hint you will get (unless no one gets them, in which case I might offer hints next week). Good luck.

As to the unpleasantness mentioned above? I have a big work meeting that will basically take all Friday night, and 8 hours of my Saturday (basically a regular work day), so I will be out of touch from about 4 PM on on Friday, even by email, aside from a few stolen minutes here and there. Just so everyone knows. Will be back Sunday. Wish me luck. :P

Oh, and if anyone likse this idea enough to steal it, feel free. :D

And something else

This is nicked from [info]kabal42, who posted it in his journal...

"[info]das_dingsi came up with the Asylum Meme. The point basically is that you post something to an asylum you are a member of. The interesting point, however, is that you do this to an asylum that has low activity/looks like it needs a crash cart to survive ;-) The idea is to remind people that it's there and alive and can be used. It's a great idea!
To quote the creator himself:
Cross-post one of your fics / artworks / icon batches / meta posts / reviews / insert here to a suitable IJ asylum that doesn't have much activity. Even if it's an old post, or already mirrored on your LJ or whatever, and especially if you think "Uh, but then I'm the only one posting there / in the spotlight", because the bad part is that probably everybody else thinks that, too, keeping the asylums in eternal limbo. That sucks."

You can link to [info]das_dingsi's post here.

So how am I going to join in? I'm going to try to get [info]blaise_zabini up and running. So I've started a recycling challenge, and just now posted my first-ever Blaise story over there. I'm going to slowly post all my Blaise fics there, I think, and hope that it will encourage others to do the same. Please, if you like Blaise, if you have fic about him/with him in, or art, or icons or meta you'd like to get opionons on? I'd love to see some actual activity there.

A new Meme for the New Year!

So...in order to encourage myself and others to review, I had a new idea. Simple enough, but with a possibility of improving everyone's chances to get a review. Because everyone likes reviews, right?

The idea is this:
* Rec your favorite fics, both yours and your favorites of others, particularly those you think have been under-read (preferrably something that got less than ten comments).

* For every one rec of your own, up to ten (and please keep it at ten for your own stuff so that no one person overwhelms the meme), you should post two others by someone else.

* For each fic, include the following information:

Length: (general is fine here - long/short, one-shot/two part/chaptered)
Review/Comments: (optional)

Do make sure each fic you rec, either yours or others, is not locked. If people can't get to it, they can't comment.

* Then, once you've posted your fics, go back through the list and read and comment! After all, it won't make a difference if no one does.

* And don't forget to pimp this in your journal! The more people who participate, the better. I did a love-meme last year, and if we get even half the number of recs we got that time, we'll all get lots of reviews.

Reference: Maeg's Guide to Leaving Feedback - good if you're never sure what to say.

Go forth and rec!

The Meme Questions )

Dec. 13th, 2007

Trying to cheer myself up a bit. I've had this post of [info]r_grayjoy's tabbed for days, but no chance to do it, so I'm doing it now.

First lines of each month meme: Take your favorite first line from one fic written each month. I might include a bit of commentary. I tend to have very specific thoughts with my first lines. Hmm...November should be interesting...

January -- It was meant as a lark. - Give Me an H! Not really that exciting, I guess... But it's the only fic for the month.

February - It had been years since the Manor had been filled with people like this. - A Private Dance. Better, but apparently I have a thing for starting stories with "It," which is Not Good. :S

March - It had been a long weekend. - The Condition of Love. Erm...yeah. Again, the only one for the month.

April - Draco loved Harry’s cock. - Something Beautiful. LOL! At least you're not disallusioned when you read the rest of the fic. It pretty much lives up to that statement. ;)

May - The obsession started for Lily late one night in sixth year when she had been doing her Prefect’s rounds. - A Passing Dream. Oooh...okay, that one's actually pretty good. :D

June - Harry was never supposed to get the letter. - The Epistolary Journal of Draco Malfoy. Again, I'm rather pleased with this one... Tells you so much about the fic that is to come.

July - Severus Snape had never willingly let anything go in his life. - If Only. Great line. :)

August - If Severus had known that being “dead” would mean being closeted with the Wolf in this Muggle mausoleum, he would have happily foregone the potions he’d taken to ensure his faked death, and gone for the real thing. - Living in Hell. Yes. :D

September - Regulus couldn’t remember how he’d escaped. Tea and Hospitality. Eh, kind of bland, but the other was worse.

October - None of them could possibly understand why we do this, why we’re together. - Our Truth. All of the choices this month were a bit bland, but I do like this.

November - On a far hill, in the tallest, most crooked tower in the land, there lived a very lonely young man named Draco. - The Witch's Hostage. Oh, I do love this one... :D

December - The man once known as Severus Snape lived a solitary life deep in the highlands of Scotland, away from all cities, and most towns. - A New Friend. :D Great line.

Mixed bag, but there's a couple good ones there. :D

Memeish thing

To celebrate getting all my fic linked here, I present a sort of memeish thing.

So, you know those memes where people ask you for pictures, and you post them in your journal? I'm going to do that, but for my posted fic. So here's how it works. Name me a pairing, a character, or a theme, and I will link you to the first time I wrote about them. And, of course, if I didn't write it, you're more than welcome to choose a second.

[No Subject]

Nowhere near done with my journal-fixing. Almost done with the fic-linking, though...I'm in September of 2005, and working my way back. So a year and two months. I think I'll have it finished today. And then I want to do some sort of fic-linking meme. To show off all these great old fics that I'd practically forgotten...

Anyone have any links to good fic-memes?

[No Subject]

Something to distract myself from unhappy and overanxious RP charries this morning:

Stolen from [info]klieo_the_muse.
- Bold all of the following TV shows which you've ever seen 3 or more episodes of in your lifetime.
- Italicize a show if you're positive you've seen every episode of it.
- If you want, add up to 3 additional shows (keep the list in alphabetical order). [added with a *]
