Yesssssssss!

Mine is an evil laugh. I think this had to do with the colours I picked for my answers, but I honestly wasn't trying to get her. I just hoped I would. :D

You're Morgana!
You're Morgana!
Take What character from "Merlin" are you? today!
Created with Rum and Monkey's Personality Test Generator.
You have a strong sense of pride, and because you put on a brave front, people don't tend to realise when you've been hurt.

You are ambitious and prefer to plan carefully. You're probably someone who makes lists.

You enjoy having nice things around you. You are great at putting people at their ease and people naturally warm to you.

You have a great sense of style and colour and enjoy expressing that through clothes and interior design.

Catch-up post for 30 Day Fanfic Meme

19 – When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
Depends on the bunny, though lately, they all get shoved in the closet, unless I'm lucky enough to get one that fits to an assignment I have to do.

20 –Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?
I have quite often, actually, though only a few have actually seen the light of day.

21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?
Many.  Some because others asked for them, some because the characters fed me more of the story after the end of what I wrote, and some because of 20 above.
I think sequels have their place, though I do believe that the best sequels (or prequels) are those that were planned for.  When they're done because people push the writer into it, or to otherwise please fans, they never have the impact of the original fic.

22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?
I've done a Big Bang, and I've been in a few different fests.  But my favorite overall was the H/D Remix (which I am doing again this round), because I liked the format, and because the subject matter just works for me.  I can't wait to see the fics that get remixed, and you never know what will turn up.  Makes it that much more exciting. :D

23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
I generally only post here, though I keep trying to get my act together to archive everything at least one other place.  At the moment, the chosen place is AAOOO.  Though I've only managed to post a few fics there.  Need to get on that, really.

24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
I would most prefer three, but I rarely manage more than two, depending on who's available, and what I'm writing.
I do remember finding one beta who I absolutely adored because she called me on everything.  It was the first time I'd ever experienced that, and it was amazingly freeing, knowing that I could trust her to call me on it.  Unfortunately, she left the fandom soon after.  I've since found another few who I adore as much, but I do miss her...

25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
I tend to like to have music on, though I can't have the TV on or I get totally distracted.  I like to make playlists, especially when the characters are being difficult.  Helps me get into their mindset a bit more.

26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
Hm.  Not sure.  I could say names, which is easy, but gets complicated depending on why you're looking for a name, and for who, but that's too easy an answer for me because I love doing it.  Clothes is always fun.  Oh, I did have to research punk rock for a character once.  Even though he was pureblood, he decided that was his one Muggle vice.  That was lots of fun.  I didn't know much about it, and had only listened to a few songs myself, but it fit with his character very well.

So behind

14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
I have a little trouble allowing myself to get to NC-17, though I write it all the time. Most of the time I have to push even to get R.

15 – Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
Hm...strangest warning? Not sure... I'd have to look, really.

16 – Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?
I actually don't mind them, and have been told by others that they rather like some of the ones I've come up with.

17 – Titles – Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?
For me, titles either come first thing, or I have to force them. I've only done a few fic where I actually titled chapters, though usually it's more an outline of the fic overall when you look at them.

18 – Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?
Depends on the story. Probably a lot of RP, a bit of reading, and a bit of the source material.

30-day fanfic meme day 12 and 13

12 – Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?
[info]foodie keeps having ideas for them...not sure if I have or not...I'd have to look through all my fic... :P

13 – Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?
I use canon as a starting point, but sometimes I really think she doesn't understand her characters.  I don't mean that I just know them better, I mean that she literally doesn't follow through in the promise she creates in her characters.  Hence fanon works just as well for me in many cases.

30-day fanfic writing meme

10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
I used to write Harry/Draco almost exclusively, but slowly I've pushed out a little, though there are some I still refuse to do.  I did do a Ron/Draco once, though I still dislike the pairing immensely because to me, Ron and Neville just aren't believable as gay.
I have tried to do Snupin a few times, but I always have trouble making it come out the way I imagine--they're just too pigheaded.
On the other hand, I was shocked at how easy it was to write Remus/Regulus.  I'd thought they'd be as difficult as Snupin or Sirius/Remus, but not so.  It's one of my more-common pairings to write, actually.

11 – Genre – do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
Romance, smut, and angst, pretty much.  I'm not so hot at comedy, and mystery is too complicated for me.

Fandom 30 Day Meme part 9

9 – Pairings – For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favorite pairings to write?

Elfquest - The only canon pairing I actually wrote was Skywise/Foxfur.  All the rest were OCs paired with one of the known characters.

Voyager - Janeway/Chakotay, Tom/B'Elanna, haven't written any others

HP - Harry/Draco, Severus/Draco, Remus/Regulus.  And I've written tons more, too.

Youkko Nitta - Carlos/Magira, I don't think I've written any others.

Merlin - Again, only written one- Arthur/Merlin.  Though there are others I don't mind.  I just haven't written them.

Fandom 30 Day Meme part 5-8

Very very behind because my trip had me offline for two days, and I'm still catching up on some things, so catch-up time on this now:

5 –If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
Kingsley Shaklebolt. He was supposed to have a small part in my first NaNoWriMo, but as soon as he showed up, he started bossing me around. I ended up having to add stuff in the editing process to integrate him better into the story.

6 – When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
I used to be afraid of writing guys. Then I got into slash, and never looked back. I barely write female characters any more. It's a bad habit I really need to get out of.

7 – Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?
I was going to say I wasn't sure, then I remembered a little fic I read ages ago: Time out of Place by Cosmic. She's the one who made me fall for Draco, and I've never looked back.

8 – Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.
No. For a very good reason. When I wrote Elfquest fic, I wrote almost exclusively OC's paired with the main elves. I know one *can* write OCs in a reasonable and interesting way, but there are so many characters in Harry Potter, there's really no need. You can find almost any sort of character to fill any role you need.
Not that I hate OCs--I have quite a number of HP OCs that I've RP'd. I just think there's generally little need to in fic.

Oct. 4th, 2010

Fandom 30 Day Meme part 4

4 – Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?

Heh. See my answer to the HP section yesterday and raise it by 100%.

Draco even likes to push his way into things that have nothing to do with HP. If there's a character he can identify with, suddenly he's in that story/movie/etc. He literally doesn't shut up.

I have done Het Draco (Yes, really), Slash Draco, baby (okay, child) Draco, older Draco... I've slashed him with Harry, Snape, his father, his son, and even a few Weasleys, just to name a few. But the one thing I can't handle with him is death. It's literally too much for me to handle. I get so emotional I have to take a step back and find something else to focus on for a while.

But I admit it, I love my blond muse, even if he is a brat. ;)

The only other character outside of HP that I can think of at the moment that even comes close is Morgana le Fae.

And, just to let everyone know, I'm off for the next few days, and will likely have no internet access. I'll be back sometime Wednesday. Be good to each other while I'm gone. *snugs*

Fandom 30 Day Meme part 3

3 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?

Elfquest: Well, I did mostly OC's, but the ones I tended to pull from the main group were Winnowill, Cutter, and Scouter, if I recall... (did I mention I had a thing for evil characters? ;) )

Voyager: Janeway, and to a lesser extent, Chakotay and B'Elanna. I think Tom was all Foodie, really...

LotR: The fic I found myself writing focused on Frodo. Never finished it, though.

Harry Potter: Say it with me folks... Draco. Yeah...anyone who got that wrong needs to start at the beginning of my journal and work their way forwards. ;) Also Harry comes to me a lot, and Severus, Remus, Blaise, and Regulus. And sometimes George. Oh, and Lucius, and sometimes Kingsley. And I'm probably forgetting a half-dozen more, too.

Buffy: Haven't written a whole lot, but...Willow. :)

Firefly: Again, I think I've written maybe three drabbles? Plus, the group's so small, it's hard to have favorites. But I suppose if I chose, it would be Inara, Kaylee, Mal or Zoe.

Youkko Nitta: Magira. Again, I haven't quite written enough to be sure, but I do love he and Carlos... :DD

Merlin: Despite RPing Merlin to [info]kabal42's Arthur, I have to say that my first answer here is Morgana. Then Arthur, I think, and then Merlin. I suppose I'll find out more in November, huh? ;D

You're Sarah Jane Smith!

The intrepid girl reporter, you invented spunky. You never rest in your relentless pursuit of what The People (and you) Want to Know, and have a profound sense of justice. You are cheerfully incapable of following orders, and have a very individualistic sense of style--much like the Doctor himself. It's no wonder you two get on so well, even if his absentmindedness makes him a bit of a handful sometimes.

May. 26th, 2010

Something lightly distracting

For me, I don't see Snape as flexible as others in fandom.  My "little black dress" of fandom is Remus.

Snape: Lucius, Albus Severus, Blaise, Charlie, Draco, Lily, Narcissa, Regulus, Remus, Sirius = 10

Remus: James, Kingsley, Sirius, Lucius, Bill, Fred, George, Harry, Hermione, Lily, Narcissa, Regulus, Tonks, Severus = 14

And just for comparison, Draco: Blaise, Cedric, Lucius, Scorpius, Charlie, Hermione, Harry, Ron, Severus, Sirius = 10

Hm.  And Blaise: Draco, Harry, Hermione, Pansy, Seamus, Theo, Cedric, Kingsley, Lucius, Miles, Rodolphus = 11

Hm...I expected Blaise to beat Remus, but I guess I was right.  He really is the one I see with the most other characters.

Comment and I'll give you a letter, then you have to list ten people/places/things you love that begin with that letter. Afterwards, post it on your journal and fill out letters of your own.
(Though you're free to comment without asking for a letter--if you don't want to play, you definitely aren't required to. :) )

[info]kabal42 gave me A.

Arthurian legend.  Two of my four favorite classes in Uni focused on Arthurian legend.  But even before then, Arthurian legend had been a large part of my life.  Morgana le Fae was one of my favorite characters even before I ever heard of Mists of Avalon, and I remember reading the Mabingoin after coming back from England because I thought it was fascinating (I was in 5th grade at the time, so about 10-11).  It's one of those things that has just been with me forever, and I couldn't even begin to remember where it started, though it likely has its roots in the SCA, which my parents were a part of from the time I was an infant until my Senior year in high school.  Knights and princesses and quests and magic...it's the basis of everything I love in fantasy.  The world would be a poorer place without it.

Adam and the Ants.  Flashback to my teen years, and the grand old days of MTV, where that actually meant "Music" and not "Miscellanious."  I fell in love with Adam Ant the first time I saw "Desperate But Not Serious."  Seriously, how could I not love a video with a vampire in it?  But so many of their songs had themes that were close to my heart--Puss In Boots, Prince Charming, Strip...And Adam's costumes?  Gaaah!  Gorgeous looking man, really.  Just my type. :D  Dark, lithe, and handsome.

Artichokes.  One of the few "scary" vegetables that I can cook.  Course, I can only cook it one way--steamed with sauce for dipping--but dang, it's good. :D

Amethyst!  My favorite gemstone, even though it's not my birthstone, because it's purple.  My wedding ring has an amethyst in it.  One of the few times I've been glad my birthstone's so expensive. ;)

Ancestors.  I believe I've mentioned it here, but if I haven't, I'm my family's genealogist.  I have the immediate family (through my great-grandparents, and down through all my first cousins)  mapped out, and quite a large amount of the more distant family mapped out as well.  I love working on my tree, and I especially love it when I find ancestors we hadn't had records for before.  I've recently found the names of one of my grandmothers' grandparents.  No better feeling than that, let me tell you. :D  I sometimes think the ancestral-worship religions make the most sense to me because I feel so close to my ancestors when I work on my tree.

Autumn.  My favorite season of the year.  Spring flowers are lovely, but I prefer the autumn rains, and the colour and smell of leaves as they change and fall....  And I love the scent of wood smoke, and Halloween...  It's really the best time of year.

Androgyny.  Seriously.  Boys who look like girls, or girls who look like boys, or anything in between....  I wish more people were androgynous.  I really do not get people who don't like it.  No, men don't have to be "manly" to be men.  They just are men.  What does it matter how they act or look, so long as they're happy that way?  It's not like it hurts you at all.  Same is true of girls.  It's their choice, not yours.  So lay off.

Ancient History.  I'm a history nut, but I've always found the earliest histories the most interesting.  Especially the ones that are right on the edge of pre-history.  Celtic, Greek, Egyptian, Babylonian, etc.  Particularly the way history and myth intertwine in those early cultures.  That was their history, since they had no better way to keep it.  People who poo-poo legends as having no basis in fact need to realize that our way of storing history is relatively recent.  Even in the middle ages in Europe, that was the more common form of history.

Abyssinian.  Love cats in general, but Abyssinians are one of my favorite breeds.  So gorgeous...  I love the shape of their head, and their body structure, and the fact that they're one of the most ancient breeds.  They're just gorgeous.

Atlantis.  This sort of goes along with Ancient history, but it's also its own thing.  I've found I can no longer watch shows that are supposed to be about the "history" of Atlantis, because they always make sure to show how it can't possibly be true, and completely ignore the actual historical evidence that proves there actually was something, we just don't know what.  Probably wasn't actually called Atlantis.  Probably was quite different from the tales Plato left us.  But that doesn't mean that there wasn't an ancient culture that managed to connect Europe and Africa with the Americas in ancient times before Greece.  And we'll never know for sure.  At least, not unless someone invents a working Time Machine.
