A Snippet of Seven Years of Entries

Since this year marks my seventh year on journals (started at LJ, came here in 2008), I thought I'd do one entry from each year I've been here, and do commentaries on the entries themselves. These entries were just ones that stood out as a way to show my fandom change over the years I've been here. Most have something to do with fic in some way.

Today's , and a fic meme

1. How do you feel about Dumbledore's avoidance of Harry in OotP?
Sounds like he was either losing cohesion already, or like he really didn't get it.  Someone needed to tell Harry it wasn't personal, at the very least.  It was stupid.
2. Name a favorite crackpot Potter theory.
I'm an absolutely huge fan of the Evanses as squibs.  Though I also really love the idea of unrequited love between Sev and Lily, even if one-sided.
3. Do you think Sirius (consciously or not) mistaking Harry for James actually caused more harm than good?
Depends what harm you're talking about.  I think it gave Harry the wrong ideas on occasion, but I also think it let him feel closer to his father, which was important.
4. Tonks: Love her, hate her, or somewhere in-between?
She was my new favorite character right out of OOTP, but I really hate what JK did to her in HBP.  It didn't even feel like the same character.  At all.  And took any remaining respect I had for Remus/Tonks away, too.
5. What Hogwarts house would you definitely NOT belong in?
Gryffindor.  Not brave, not a go-getter.  For me, the order is: Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor.

Post a list of your top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most.

Hm.  Just found something on my flist saying it's quote-your-own-fic day.  So, the question is, what to quote?

So, this is from the first of my Silver Cycle.  It introduces the title character, and his first meeting with Snape.  I'm rather pleased with it, so I hope you all like.  If you're interested in the rest, please go give it a look.

Another writing meme!

This one by [info]catrinella.

So this is a toot-your-own-horn meme. In your LJ, identify and link the one thing you wrote/drew/posted in the past 12 months that you like best. Obviously, anything you wrote for a 2005 anonymous fic exchange doesn't count, but if it's something you wrote for a 2004 anon exchange? Fair game since it was revealed last December. Spread it far and wide, kids.

For me?  It has to be Forever Silver, the third and final part of my Silver Cycle.  I worked on it so hard, and I'm very proud of how it turned out.  Usually, I look back at a fic and all I can see are the flaws, but for this, they just don't stand out to me.  Storyline--Silver comes to visit his "brother" Draco one day.  Bloodplay, Torture, Death, and Sex Warnings...  NC-17  Understandable without the first two, but the first two definately would be helpful to understanding where Silver came from, and his relationship with Severus.

State of the Elf

So, I haven't posted anything but fic in the last week or so, so I thought I'd post something to say hi to everyone, and yes, I'm still here, and working on fics to be posted (I have two more Xmas fics I want to finish, then I'll be going back to my "regular" writing...), and stuff like that

I came across something on [info]inell's LJ this morning.  She's come up with an idea that squicked her.  So, I'm curious.  What was the squickiest (to you, not necessarily to your readers) thing you ever finished?

For me, I have to say it was my Silver Cycle.  Dub con, incest(ish), chan (which I *never* write), and a semi-rent-boy-esquness.  I can't believe I even had the idea, let alone finished it.  I'm really quite proud of it, though.

So, come on.  I want to hear about yours.  Please?

Meme time!

Yes, it's meme time - and this time it is of the more unusual sort - I want fic/art recs. Only I don't want any fic or art recs - I want your fic/art recs, meaning I want you to rec me fics you've written or art you've drawn.

So - Give me three fics or three pieces of art (or a mixture of the two) that you've done, and that you're really proud of and want people (not just me) to see and or read. Yes you can only choose three, and you have to explain why you picked the ones that you did - it can be because it is your best one, or because you created an OC that you really enjoyed, or because you think the fic/art haven't got enough attention.

Put your three fics/pieces of art together with links in the comments. Then post this in your own journal and see what your flist thinks people should read/see. And remember to post your three fics/pieces of art there too, so that your flist can see what you want them to read/see. Go ahead. Pimp yourself!

Writing update and stuff

So, I've actually been writing the past two days, more than a thousand words each day.  And the Narcissa/Snape story might be coming to a close, if I can just get them to agree to do it already.  I'm hoping to be thoughroughly detailed, as he's basically reteaching her, so...  OMG, I'm writing Het Smut! :D

Redid some tags last night.  I now have tags for Finding Harry, The Silver Cycle, What's Done Is Done, and Winter Flowers (of which the Sev/Nissa bit is a part, which needs its own name, as I'm thinking that will be the name of the universe it's set in...).  The entries tagged include any entries where I talk about the fic idea in general, any mentions of posting them somewhere, any cookies I posted, and any chapters that were posted here on lj.  Those, along with the True Revenge Universe (which was finished before I joined LJ), and the Lost Love Universe (ditto), are my most involved stories to date.  Most of the rest are one-shots or co-authored, and have little to do with each other.

And now for a Draco-babble.  To those who are new here, or don't know me well, Draco is the character I find myself going back to again and again.  His family issues fascinate me, and I see him as a very vulnerable person that desperately needs someone who really cares about him.  As such, he almost always has a role in my stories, whether it be major or minor.  The Snape/Narcissa bit has him as a toddler (which I hope I'm doing okay, cause I'm not really a kid person, and hence haven't spent much time around kids that age), the Snape/Lupin bit will probably have him and Harry come to visit once or twice, Finding Harry has him as Harry's "twin" brother, and the other three stories feature Draco in a leading and eventually romantic role. :D  So, if you'r here for the fic, beware if you don't like Draco.  That is all. :D

ETA: should I have tags for Gen, Het and Slash as well? What does everyone think?

Another Meme

Name your ten favourite titles from stories you've written:

  1. Precious Silver - because it says so many things about the character it refers to
  2. True Revenge - because it worked with the ending of the fic so well
  3. Dragon's Tears - dispite the fact that it never quite showed in the story, the underlying theme of what was going on worked so well with crocodile tears...So what better than to transfer it to the creature the main character was named for?
  4. Finding Harry - while the title hasn't quite paid off yet, I like the idea it represents in an AU where Harry doesn't even know who he is.
  5. Drawing the Circle - I had no idea what I would call this piece until I found the poem I used for the title.  It just fit the story so well.
  6. Please, Not a Ferret - it says so much, and yet so little about the story itself. ;)
  7. Snapshots - because even though it says very little about the story, it's illustrative of the story over all.
  8. George's Little Secret - makes me giggle.
  9. In One Blow - because at the beginning of the fic, it means one thing, and at the end, it means something else entirely.
  10. Secrets Kept - Liked it so much I practically used the same title twice.  But I think it works better in this story than Secrets Worth Keeping.

Wow.  Didn't think I could do it... :)

ETA: Oh, and seven out of those ten? Draco-fics... ;P

To whom it may concern...

Stay tuned for chapter 6 and Epilogue of Finding Silver tomorrow.  And my opinion of ROTS...  Still digesting.  But I must say this: "I knew Empire, sir.  And you are no Empire..."

May. 3rd, 2005

Um, I think I'm done...

So, Forever Silver, the final part of my Silver Cycle, is 32 pages.  Now to get it to my betas so I can fix it and post it. I'm so nervous.  eek.

This is the most smut I have ever done, but I'm really proud of it.  I'm just not sure it works.

Anyway, hopefully, I'll have it up in the next few days. (crosses fingers) We'll see...

Gah.  I'm all adrenaline-shaky... :P

May. 2nd, 2005

Wow.  Actual progress.  All I have left of Forever Silver is the Epilogue.  I can't believe it's almost done.  There was a period there where it just wasn't coming to me, but today I did another three pages.  And it will definately be at least 30 pages with the Epilogue.  Then I still need to get it beta'd...

Well, at least I'm almost done.

Now I just need to decide which H/D to do next. :D

Cookies for all!

So, first off, there's a cookie of an AU that my co-author Foodie and I have been working on for a while now. It's an alternate take on our True Revenge series. To get the cookie, though, you have to go to our Yahoo!Group.

Second, I thought I'd post a bit of Forever Silver, the final part of my Silver Cycle. I was going to post the smut, but then I realized it gave away far too much, so I hope you'll all like this bit instead.

Draco being out-Slytherined )
And, for those interested, I've posted the first two stories over at the Ouroboros.

So, I have been working on the third and final part of the Silver Cycle ever since I finished Finding Harry. And I'm getting there. I have two out of a possible four scenes of smut done so far (and that is the most smut I have ever done before in any pice), and I'm approaching 24 pages now. I'm hoping I'll have it finished by the end of next week. I would have had it finished this week, but life's been awfully distracting. Still, I'm approaching the end.

I think this last piece will have to be chaptered, though. The other two were one-shots, but this one's going to be somewhere around thirty pages, about twice the length of the others. Plus, it has the epilogue to the whole piece as well. Still, it's a start. I've actually written almost three pages worth today, and I haven't done that since I was working on FH, so I think I'm on a roll. :)

So, anyone interested in a cookie? ;D

Apr. 20th, 2005

Writing update

So, now that FH is done, I've been working on the final installment of my Silver Cycle, and I'm (hopefully) at least half done.  I hope to have it finished (if not betad) by the end of next week, as that's when my little vacation will be ending.

The problem (aside from my stupid rec-list being down for a week while I tried to fix it) is that it's so much darker than the first two.  The first two had hints of the darkness, but this...  And there's smut.  Possibly as much as three or more scenes of it.  And I've done a grand total of three smut scenes in my life.   Only two of which I've published, and neither of which got me much commentary that in any way helped me figure out what works and what doesn't.  Plus, it's not happy sex, which makes it harder to keep the balance right.

Sigh.  I guess I'll just keep plugging away, and see where that gets me...

Oh, I am VERY not looking forward to editing this one down to an R for FF.net and FA.  If anyone's got any helpful suggestions in that kind of thing, I'd love them.

I am in love with the fandom today.  I'm in such a good mood, and reading all these great stories.  Can I just say to each and every person on my flist who is in the HP fandom, how boring my life would be without you all?  I've been happy all day, and at the moment, I'm grinning my head off.

I just had to share the love.

I've already come up with my next set of recs for my rec-list, so I will probably be posting a new version tomorrow, maybe a smutty cookie from the last part of the Silver Cycle, too. :D

Current writing

So, with four months left to go, and Finding Harry finally finished, I've decided to narrow my focus.  For the moment, I'm working on four fics:

Forever Silver, which is the final installment of the Silver Cycle, and quite dark.
In Limine, which is HP/DM and SS/RL, and also dark
My Veela!Draco story, which I got encouraging words on from [info]xanateria, which made me decide to go back to it (Harry/Draco again)
and Five Times Out, which should be an easy write, and is H/D as well.

I'm hoping I can finish them all, especially since none of them are nearly as long as Finding Harry...

Wish me luck!

Jan. 10th, 2005

Wow! I'm writing!

I actually wrote three pages of FH today, and may actually get to dealing with the last part of the Silver Cycle, too.  Plus, I updated my memories, and I made a list for myself of where all my fics are (I hope), so that I can post some new ones to FA.  Plus, I read the latest chapter of Maeglin's SB/RL/Hp fic, answered several emails, and kept updated on my flist. :D

Been a very successful day so far.

Writing meme!

Gacked from [info]fleshdress:

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s)...

Cut, because I'm working on so many )

More about writing...

So, people out there in HP-reader-land, which would you most be interested in me finishing, aside from Finding Harry & The Silver Cycle?

The sequel to Snapshots - DM/HP
Untitled Veela!Draco story - HP/DM
Strangers Till Now - DM/HG, crossover with Labyrinth
Winter Flowers - AU - what if James Potter survived the night Voldemort attacked, and Lucius Malfoy died soon after? - JP/NM, SB/SS, SS/NM
Draco Black - Draco takes a new name summer between sixth and seventh years - HP/DM
Untitled Prequel to Snapshots - SS/RL
Untitled post-war convicted!Draco saved by Harry & Snape story - HP/DM, SS/RL, lots of others mentioned
Untitled post-war Remus angst story - RL/HP, SS/DM, SS/HP (dear god, I might actually write snarry!)
Untitled final piece to the True Revenge Saga - no ships, told from Draco & Adriana's povs
Untitled Snape takes care of Draco fic - SS/DM, mention of LM/SS
Untitled H/D Tristan & Isolde take-off, Dark post-war, Voldemort's side won - HP/DM, SS/RL, LOTS of others

So,  do let me know if any sound interesting...I'm trying to decide what will get done, and what will get discarded.  The more votes I get for something, the likelier it will get written.
