Finding Harry chapter 5

Title: Finding Harry
Rating: PG13
Pairing: Gen
Summary: What if Harry disappeared the night of the attack on his parents' home? And though Dumbledore looked for him, he searched in vain? What if Harry was raised under another name, and not by the Dursleys, but by another family? A wizarding family. And not a family Dumbledore would approve of.
A/N: A repost of one of my older stories, to archive it here.  No slash, a dash of het, but mostly concerning Harry and his friends.  An alternate sorting story that bit at me until I had to write it.  This is one of the earliest stories I ever wrote, so it's a bit raw, but I still like the world, and am currently pushing to work on the second year at Hogwarts.  I hope people will let me know what they think. :)

Master Post of Oh Dear Lord...

Yeah, so it's been a while since I posted, so it's time for another mega-post about everything I have to share. :D

HP:
I have been going nuts writing lately, but I think I'm approaching the end of my fic for Draco's birthday.  Then I'll have to start my next [info]daily_deviant piece,  I'm thinking I'll do Sirius/Draco. :D  Wish me luck....  Also, I wrote an AU story that I finished last year, and promised a sequel on.  I got several reviews yesterday that finally pushed my interest over the edge.  And I do have most of the prologue finished.  I have one beta, but I've found that more betas is better betaing, so if anyone wants to read through the orginal and/or hold my hand through the sequel, I'd love you forever.  It's a Harry raised by the Malfoys fic, year by year.

RP has been lots of fun, but there's so much going on that it's hard to keep up.  Blaise has been in a steady relationship for two months as of yesterday (OMG!), George is having a bit of a crisis because he's realized his feelings for Fred are a bit more than brotherly, Padma's still in no-man's land, and hasn't really played yet.... (Jessi, I'm looking at you.  Are you up to a thread together?)  And Remus has been having more sex than he ever dreamed he would, but he's having a few jealousy issues...

My RP Characters' pictures, if anyone's curious. :D )

And now that LMOM over at [info]pervy_werewolf is over, [info]i_love_looshie will pick up.  A lot looser.  You can post anything from the past twelve months that has to do with the lovely Malfoy Patriarch.  I'm still trying to decide what to post, but I will definately be posting something each day. :D  Even if it's just the best of VC.  But the offer's only good through June, so watch and/or post now! :)

And big hugs to [info]lysa1, who knows why.   Hope it's all going well, hon. :D

A small bit of RL, too.

Tried to upgrade my computer a bit, but failed miserably.

The drawbridge right next to my workplace is being shored up because it's about 100 years old, so all the busses have been rerouted, so I now have to speed-walk five blocks uphill each night, so if I'm less than vocal when I get home, you know why.  At least I'll loose some weight, right?

My old alma matter is being thoroughly killed by the Seattle school system.  I truly believe that if it weren't for their rediculous system, it would still be an active and thriving alternative school.  But it was barely that when I left, so why should I be surprised it's gone downhill this much?  It just makes me angry, that's all. :(

Oh, and No, I'm not putting in my picture to the Fanartists Vs. Fanficcers, Anniversary Edition.  If I did, I'd lose us the battle. ;P  If you want to see me (and have me friended, cause it's flocked), I'm here.  Or you can see these...

[No Subject]

I need pushing to write again. So I have a deal for you. I have ten fics That I'm working on that I need pushes on. I won't tell you the titles, just the pairings and the general setting. You tell me which you want a cookie from, and I'll give you two or three paragraphs from that fic.

They are:

1> Genfic. AU, Harry's second year at Hogwarts.
2> Lucius/Blaise. Fifth year fic.
3> Harry/Draco, Severus/Remus. Postwar fic.
4> Harry/Draco. Postwar fic.
5> Severus/Draco, Harry/Draco, Severus/Harry, Severus/Draco/Harry. Post-HBP, would be seventh year, but not, to post-war.
6> Severus/Narcissa. Post Voldemort's first fall
7> Severus/Remus. Postwar
8> Harry/Draco, Harry/Bella, Severus/Remus. Post-HBP, would be seventh year, to post-war.
9> Draco/Hermione. Seventh year, Pre-HBP canon, Crossover with Labyrinth.
10> Draco/Hermione, Ron/Hermione, Draco/Other female. Post-war.

There you go. Make your choice. I'll post when I'm home. :D

Fic and general blather

So, I have all the books except for HBP in MP3 format, so I like to listen to them while I'm at work.  Not a big deal, right?  The problem being that it tends to cause my AU muse to act up.

I have a story, Finding Harry, which I worked on for something like a year and a half, so it's got a special place in my heart.  The story goes: cut for Finding Harry spoilers )

I had great fun with the fic, fixing some of the problems I have with canon, and making many of the characters stronger emotionally than they are in the books.  I really want to do a rewrite of the story before I move on to the next one, but when I listen to the books, I can't help but think of threads for the second.

I do have one major problem, though.  more FH spoilers )

I've even written an intro-paragraph for FH2: even more spoilers for FH )

So, I'd love people's opionions--on the fic, on the above problem, on things you always hated about the Harry Potter books.

---

Anyway, I was listening to POA today, and I always adore the Shrieking Shack scene for its detail about the Marauders' lives.

And it made me wonder--what would their children have been like if they'd all "survived" the war?  I don't think they would have been able to permanently kill off Voldemort, but I can see them hiding from him long enough to take him down for a time, and survive to get married and have kids.  Harry with two living parents and a brother and sister...And Peter falling for Alice Longbottom after Frank dies in a raid.  Remus ends up with Narcissa after Lucius dies fighting against them. (Don't look at me that way, Lysa...)  And Sirius "makes do" for a time with Hestia Jones.  So there's all these Marauder kids, and Harry, Draco and Neville have been raised as friends--the Next Marauders.

Is it totally a bad idea?

---

Randomness -

RPG is fun.  And addictive.  (I actually considered making FH2 one, but there lies madness)  Just wish I had access at work, cause we're all so far apart that by the time I get home, several of the main players are asleep, or should be, which means we get at most two or three responses a day.

[info]titti is redoing The Thin Line, and will be including all Snape/M Black pairings on the site.  It will be lovely to have easily accessible Severus/Regulus fics.

Posted The Proper Way (LM/RB) and Ribbons (HP/DM) over at the Archive.  Both NC-17.

Been reading a ton of Manga lately (Thank you, Anne... ;D).  So many Manga, so little time. :D  Some favorites?  Eriee Queery, Nana, Paradise Kiss, Alice 19th, Ceres...  I'm sure that's not all, but I'm very much enjoying what I'm finding, generally. :)

---

And a last bit.

My to do list for the weekend:
    Start [info]hd_directory bios
Finish the first edit of Chrysalis
Write two more sections of Velvet Captivity
    Edit Foodie's next chapter

Writing update and stuff

So, I've actually been writing the past two days, more than a thousand words each day.  And the Narcissa/Snape story might be coming to a close, if I can just get them to agree to do it already.  I'm hoping to be thoughroughly detailed, as he's basically reteaching her, so...  OMG, I'm writing Het Smut! :D

Redid some tags last night.  I now have tags for Finding Harry, The Silver Cycle, What's Done Is Done, and Winter Flowers (of which the Sev/Nissa bit is a part, which needs its own name, as I'm thinking that will be the name of the universe it's set in...).  The entries tagged include any entries where I talk about the fic idea in general, any mentions of posting them somewhere, any cookies I posted, and any chapters that were posted here on lj.  Those, along with the True Revenge Universe (which was finished before I joined LJ), and the Lost Love Universe (ditto), are my most involved stories to date.  Most of the rest are one-shots or co-authored, and have little to do with each other.

And now for a Draco-babble.  To those who are new here, or don't know me well, Draco is the character I find myself going back to again and again.  His family issues fascinate me, and I see him as a very vulnerable person that desperately needs someone who really cares about him.  As such, he almost always has a role in my stories, whether it be major or minor.  The Snape/Narcissa bit has him as a toddler (which I hope I'm doing okay, cause I'm not really a kid person, and hence haven't spent much time around kids that age), the Snape/Lupin bit will probably have him and Harry come to visit once or twice, Finding Harry has him as Harry's "twin" brother, and the other three stories feature Draco in a leading and eventually romantic role. :D  So, if you'r here for the fic, beware if you don't like Draco.  That is all. :D

ETA: should I have tags for Gen, Het and Slash as well? What does everyone think?

Another Meme

Name your ten favourite titles from stories you've written:

  1. Precious Silver - because it says so many things about the character it refers to
  2. True Revenge - because it worked with the ending of the fic so well
  3. Dragon's Tears - dispite the fact that it never quite showed in the story, the underlying theme of what was going on worked so well with crocodile tears...So what better than to transfer it to the creature the main character was named for?
  4. Finding Harry - while the title hasn't quite paid off yet, I like the idea it represents in an AU where Harry doesn't even know who he is.
  5. Drawing the Circle - I had no idea what I would call this piece until I found the poem I used for the title.  It just fit the story so well.
  6. Please, Not a Ferret - it says so much, and yet so little about the story itself. ;)
  7. Snapshots - because even though it says very little about the story, it's illustrative of the story over all.
  8. George's Little Secret - makes me giggle.
  9. In One Blow - because at the beginning of the fic, it means one thing, and at the end, it means something else entirely.
  10. Secrets Kept - Liked it so much I practically used the same title twice.  But I think it works better in this story than Secrets Worth Keeping.

Wow.  Didn't think I could do it... :)

ETA: Oh, and seven out of those ten? Draco-fics... ;P

Jul. 17th, 2005

So now that that's over...

Writing:
I still need to go through my fics and ideas and see what "survived."  I have one fic out to be beta'd (went out friday, so my confidence is not high, but I'll get it posted eventually.), What's Done Is Done, which I was planning on changing a certain Malfoy member's name to reflect, and then realized I'd have to change too many other minor details, so its staying.  I'll just post a "Pre-HBP canon" label on it. :)

Past that, I will be working on FH 2.  I've got a nice big plot to wrap my head around (I'm going to combine 2 & 3...  Wish me luck), and I think I've got most of the plot-points figured out.

I've also drug Winter Flowers out of mothballs - it's James/Narcissa, Sirius/Severus.  It's got hints of Bastard!Lucius in it, and a bit of Severus/Narcissa and Sirius/Remus as well.  We'll see.  Looking at it now, I may have to toss it.  But if so, I might pull the Sev/Narcissa bits from it and post them.  I was rather fond of those parts. :)

Also, I have an idea for an H/D Tristan & Isolde Dark!Future fic.  And it works eerily well now.  I'm scared.  I thought that one would be the first to go. ;P

Oh, and if Foodie agrees, we might start another round-robin soon, and if not, I may wind up doing the fic myself.  I need a "Twins meet the remaining Marauders" canon fic.  The scene where Fred and George realize that Remus and Sirius are Moony and Padfoot. :)

Not sure what will happen yet with our TR AU series, though...

Recs:
From now until at least September, I will be posting two sets of recs.  One that is pre-HBP canon, and one that is post.  That way anyone not wanting to be spoiled doesn't have to wade through the recs or even simply pass them by.  All of the Post-canon recs will be behind lj cuts to prevent any possible spoilers for those who don't want to see them. :)

Anything else I need to cover?

Apr. 28th, 2005

Progress!

So, I have been working on the third and final part of the Silver Cycle ever since I finished Finding Harry. And I'm getting there. I have two out of a possible four scenes of smut done so far (and that is the most smut I have ever done before in any pice), and I'm approaching 24 pages now. I'm hoping I'll have it finished by the end of next week. I would have had it finished this week, but life's been awfully distracting. Still, I'm approaching the end.

I think this last piece will have to be chaptered, though. The other two were one-shots, but this one's going to be somewhere around thirty pages, about twice the length of the others. Plus, it has the epilogue to the whole piece as well. Still, it's a start. I've actually written almost three pages worth today, and I haven't done that since I was working on FH, so I think I'm on a roll. :)

So, anyone interested in a cookie? ;D

Apr. 20th, 2005

Writing update

So, now that FH is done, I've been working on the final installment of my Silver Cycle, and I'm (hopefully) at least half done.  I hope to have it finished (if not betad) by the end of next week, as that's when my little vacation will be ending.

The problem (aside from my stupid rec-list being down for a week while I tried to fix it) is that it's so much darker than the first two.  The first two had hints of the darkness, but this...  And there's smut.  Possibly as much as three or more scenes of it.  And I've done a grand total of three smut scenes in my life.   Only two of which I've published, and neither of which got me much commentary that in any way helped me figure out what works and what doesn't.  Plus, it's not happy sex, which makes it harder to keep the balance right.

Sigh.  I guess I'll just keep plugging away, and see where that gets me...

Oh, I am VERY not looking forward to editing this one down to an R for FF.net and FA.  If anyone's got any helpful suggestions in that kind of thing, I'd love them.

Mar. 20th, 2005

Current writing

So, with four months left to go, and Finding Harry finally finished, I've decided to narrow my focus.  For the moment, I'm working on four fics:

Forever Silver, which is the final installment of the Silver Cycle, and quite dark.
In Limine, which is HP/DM and SS/RL, and also dark
My Veela!Draco story, which I got encouraging words on from [info]xanateria, which made me decide to go back to it (Harry/Draco again)
and Five Times Out, which should be an easy write, and is H/D as well.

I'm hoping I can finish them all, especially since none of them are nearly as long as Finding Harry...

Wish me luck!

Feb. 28th, 2005

Whining....

So, I got the loveliest of reviews this morning.  I have been working on this story for a year and a half.  And I have to say that in the process, my writing style has definately improved.  That said, I'm well aware that I have blind spots, and that every story can use improvement.  I am not afraid of concrit, and try to use it to improve my future writing.

But, why is it that people think insulting other people's writing is concrit?  I don't mean something like "I didn't like this because..." or "This didn't work for me..."  I can handle that.  I have had reviews in the past that said similar things.  And they made me sad, but I can understand.  I'm not a stellar writer, and my stories aren't for everyone.  But saying to someone, "This story is a waste of webspace" is not concrit.  It is mean, rude and just not okay.  It doesn't help me, it just upsets me.  I didn't force you to read my story.  If you found yourself not enjoying it, there are other stories on the web.  Feel free to click your "back" button on your browser.  Do not feel you have to insult me!

Okay, so I did ask for people's opinions about whether or not I should write a sequel.  But nowhere did I say, "and please insult me as much as you feel is needed while you're at it."

And, of course, it's at ff.net, and it's a signed review, so I can't even get rid of it.

Why is it that people feel such a need to insult others (that they don't even know) in a public forum?  It only makes them look bad, and increases bad feeling all around.

OMG I'm Done!

I have just finished writing Finding Harry! :D  I can't believe it.  I've been writing it for a year and a half.  163 pages, with an index.  29 chapters, plus a prologue.  Now to get the last chapter edited, and then I'm done! :D

ETA: All done, up and posted, all 30 chapters. Feel free to leave me a note, I'd love some concrit. Don't get much of that over at FF.net.

Feb. 21st, 2005

Latest chapter of FH up!

Chapter 28: The Man With Two Faces.

I can't believe it.  I have only one left!  What should I do to celebrate when I'm done?  I may even have the last up by the end of the weekend....I hope. :D

Through the Fire is now up, and I max have two more chapters to go.  Don't know if I'll ever do the other years, but it's been a worthwhile adventure.

Another chapter up!

Shadow of the Dark, chapter 26: Ron, Vince and Orion are given detention in the Forest.

And, if things work out, I have only two more chapters to go! :D
