Old fandom meme, revived

Need to do this again.  New journal, things have shifted a bit, so time to re-list my fandoms:

Fandom rambling behind the cut because Elf doesn't know when to shut up )

Have I gone on long enough? :P

State of the Elf

Let's see...health thing sorta better.

Writing getting done.  Still have two more to finish this month, then I have a thought for a epilogue-kid mini-drabble fest...

Have signed back up at NaNoWriMo's website, and have been looking around there.  My plot for my fic I'll be writing is coming along nicely...

Fall TV opinions )

Tons of movies coming out this fall.  Starting with Across the Universe today...  The previews look so pretty...I can't wait to see it.
Others I'm looking forward to:
Elizabeth the Golden Age (still not 100% sold on this one, but I did love the first, even with the playing with history...) - October 12th
August Rush - November 21st
The Golden Compass - December 7th
Sweeny Todd (has everyone seen the preview, yet?) - December 21st

And, of course, a few videos as well... :D  I've been putting off watching the Pirates movies until I can watch all three at once... :D

Um...that's all I can think of for now, anyway...how is everyone else doing?

A meme, gacked from [info]fiona_fawkes who stole it from [info]furiosity who stole it from [info]kerrikins:

What fandoms do we have in common?

My main fandom is Harry Potter, of course.  Books, movies, fandom...  I love it all (though GOF the movie less so...)  Just too much there I adore.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a bit less so, Angel.  Joss whedon is my god.  I adore him, his one-liners, his characters, and the way he makes his worlds so real.

Sims - and yes, it is a fandom.  I could spend hours or even days creating houses, characters...  I love them.  I love playing them.

Star Trek.  Not active currently, but the only other fandom I really published stories in.  I can't imagine a world where there wasn't Star Trek in my life.  Even with the mistakes TPTB made, there's still so much good there.

Elfquest.  The only other fandom I got involved in on a personal level, though I wasn't in any holts.  I have always loved elves, so really, this was right up my alley.

Firefly.  See Buffy/Angel above.  And may I add, he makes the best female characters ever.

Star Wars.  Really the first trilogy, cause the prequels were bad.  Lucas had a great group of actors, the story had heart, and the entire thing advanced movie effects tenfold.

Stargate.  Love the idea, love the characters, love the stories.  Just a great team all around.  And anything that includes this much myth is right up my alley.

Forever Knight.  Best-ever vampire show on TV before Buffy.  It sucks that it only made it through three seasons.

Fruits Basket.  People who turn into animals?  And boys who can't touch girls?  How can I not love it?

Other minor fandoms: LOTR, B5 (Ivanova, Talia and Marcus...  God, yes.), XMen, V (the mini series), Batman. Teen Titans, Star Blasers/Space Battleship Yamato, Oran High School Host Club (omg, twins!), Battlestar Galactica, Quantum Leap, Law & Order, Labyrinth, Beauty and the Beast, Lost, Shakespeare

Yeah.  Just a few.  :P  And likely there's more I've forgotten.

So, who do you like?

What 5 major events on any of your shows caused you to become enraged?

Chakotay/Seven, Voyager.  Okay, I know tptb didn't want him with Janeway, but why?  Why did they feel they had to do this?  At least with the Doctor, there was some interesting interactions.  Just made me want to tear my hair out.

Dax's death, DS9.  Dax was, is, and probably always will be my favorite Star Trek character.  It doesn't hurt that I'm absolutely fascinated by the Trill, either.  But about halfway through the run of the series, they started selling Dax short.  Oh, she wasn't interested in dating Trill...  Oh, she didn't want a Trill ceremony...  They practically forgot the Trill even existed.  Now, I understand that they had a running storyline, but it seems to me that was just sloppy plotting on the writers' parts.  By the time she decided to leave, I couldn't particularly blame her.  Didn't make watching her death any easier, though.

Serena's departure, Law & Order.  WTF?  "Is this because I'm gay?"  Where did that come from?  No groundwork, no nothing.  At least, not that I noticed.  What about the fact that she was constantly butting heads with him, or that (if I recall correctly) she'd screwed up in the case that epsiode?  Or better yet, why not let her keep her diginty and walk away because she'd had enough of that arsehole, and had decided to become a public defender?  For gays? :D  Anything but what they did.  Yeesh.

The final episode of Quantum Leap.  He never found home....  WTF?  How is that a good ending?  That sucks!  There's only one other series ending that upsets me more....

Forever Knight series finale.   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Why?  No, no, no, no!  I know they were trying to make sure they wouldn't have to do more, but anything would have been better.  ANYTHING.  I don't care if she would have made a sucky vampire.  FK is one of the first fandoms I read heavily in, and some of the best ones I read were crossovers between it and QL, fixing both endings.  I also read some of the Virtual season 4 that some of the fans did.  I would have liked to have seen that.

General fun and oddities... And GIP

Up to 57 icons now...  No idea if I'll ever use them all, but I'm having great fun finding them.  And if you want shippy ones?  Go check out [info]gutterqueen's icons.  They look like this, and I love them.  She's now got over 100...

Was watching L&O:SVU last night.  One of the early episodes.  And one of the characters was interviewing a witess on the stand.  But instead of saying "frottage," which I believe is what he meant, he said "fromage..."  O_O  Maybe I missed something, or maybe it was just that it was one of the early episodes, and bad quality, but yikes...  What a mistake to let through.  Even the CC had it as Fromage.

And I just have to say how much I adore being in this fandom right now.  All the fannish love in the last couple days was absolutely lovely. :D

And I love my beta, Foodie, too.  Cause she gets all my in-jokes, and puts them in her story.  And I definately don't tell her enough.  I doubt I'll ever live down the scene I wrote where Snape drugged her character to keep her from being a Gryffindor and running off and hunting down Draco to eviscerate him for abducting her children. :D

Still need a good general Remus icon, and I'd love a Remus/Harry icon, but most are still a bit squicky...

Haven't been writing nearly enough lately.  Working on my (first!  omg!) threesome fic for DA's birthday.  With actual Snarry in it.  I mean separate from the threesome, they have to come together before they can be a threesome...  It's kind of wigging me out.  This is like the third fic idea I've had with Snarry in it, but it's the first where I've written more than a few words, and the others weren't about them really coming to like one another.  It was more lust.  I'm scared...  Anyone want to hold my hand while I write that stuff?  The Narcissa/Snape stuff has stopped coming along.  She's still so fragile, I don't want to have Snape push too hard.  But she keeps pushing herself, so I'm not sure if it works or not. :S  Everything else is on the back burner till I finish DA's birthday fic, I think.  Though Captive Bonds keeps trying to rear its head... :D  Snape seems to want a voice in everything I write right now.  Hmmm...

I've stopped watching award shows, but I'm pleased that I still watching the Tonys at least.  Last year at this time, I discovered the lovely Avenue Q, which has kept me laughing all year.  Unlike the other award shows, this one still has the tendancy to keep me interested and not annoyed.

This year, it was not so much a play that got my attention, as a piece done in memory of the theatre people who passed this year.  Jessie Martin, aka Eddie Green from Law and Order, did Razzle Dazzle from Chicago.  I started bawling.  For those who don't watch Law and Order, Jerry Orbach was a long-time actor on the show, but before that, one of his better-known Broadway shows was Chicago, where he played the role of Billy Flinn.  There were always tales from the set of how Jessie and Jerry would sing together, and I couldn't help but be touched watching Jessie sing in Jerry's honor tonight.

It's nice to be able to see things that I won't see for many years yet, and make plans for what I will go to when it comes to town.  I hope the Tonys never stop being played. :)

Okay, too cool, so I had to...

01. Post a list of 10 TV shows you watch (current or cancelled!)
02. Have your friends list guess your favourite CHARACTER from each show
03. When guessed bold the line and write a sentence about why you like that character
04. Post in your own livejournal :)

1. Voyager
2. Babylon 5
3. Stargate SG1 Teal'c, guessed by [info]kleo_the_muse. Teal'c is the reason I decided to continue watching the show when it first aired. I love his sense of humor, his sense of honor, and the fact that he's lovely doesn't hurt either. :D
4. Pretender
5. Law and Order, original series
6. CSI
7. Battlestar Galactica (current, not old)
8. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
9. DS9
10. Forever Knight

Guess away!

Rest Well, Jerry

So, I am a huge fan of Law and Order.  I actually watch all of the shows, not just the original.  And I was quite looking forward to a show where Jerry Orbach would be featured a bit more.  Unfortunately, today I heard the news that this wonderful man is gone.  I will miss him.  I think he was one of the reasons I have watched the show for so long.

News story link.

For anyone who does not recognize his name, here is his IMDB bio.
