Jul. 21st, 2007

I will take a while for me to be coherent about it, I think.  Expect a more detailed post tomorrow.

First I have to go back to Wednesday and scan my flist--if it'll let me go back that far...

Beware to those who haven't finished--there may end up being spoilers in the comments... (yes, this is an invitation to pick my brain about it...

See you on the other side!

It's currently a quarter after 9 my time, and I will be going down to get my copy in about two hours or so.

I will be checking in only once tomorrow to post my Farewell fest fic at [info]daily_deviant, but otherwise I won't be back until I've finished the book, likely sometime on Sunday.  I definitely won't be more than glancing at my email until then.

Hope everyone's enjoying it!

PSA: Spoilers...again

Said it before, I'll say it again.  I don't like spoilers.  Even very minor ones.  Yes, this includes cover art, which is more speculation than spoiler, but still...

Please, please, PLEASE...if you want to squee, speculate, or whatever, please post under a cut for those of us who aren't ready yet?  It's just simple courtesy.

And this goes for the movie, too.

Thank you.

Fic and general blather

So, I have all the books except for HBP in MP3 format, so I like to listen to them while I'm at work.  Not a big deal, right?  The problem being that it tends to cause my AU muse to act up.

I have a story, Finding Harry, which I worked on for something like a year and a half, so it's got a special place in my heart.  The story goes: cut for Finding Harry spoilers )

I had great fun with the fic, fixing some of the problems I have with canon, and making many of the characters stronger emotionally than they are in the books.  I really want to do a rewrite of the story before I move on to the next one, but when I listen to the books, I can't help but think of threads for the second.

I do have one major problem, though.  more FH spoilers )

I've even written an intro-paragraph for FH2: even more spoilers for FH )

So, I'd love people's opionions--on the fic, on the above problem, on things you always hated about the Harry Potter books.

Anyway, I was listening to POA today, and I always adore the Shrieking Shack scene for its detail about the Marauders' lives.

And it made me wonder--what would their children have been like if they'd all "survived" the war?  I don't think they would have been able to permanently kill off Voldemort, but I can see them hiding from him long enough to take him down for a time, and survive to get married and have kids.  Harry with two living parents and a brother and sister...And Peter falling for Alice Longbottom after Frank dies in a raid.  Remus ends up with Narcissa after Lucius dies fighting against them. (Don't look at me that way, Lysa...)  And Sirius "makes do" for a time with Hestia Jones.  So there's all these Marauder kids, and Harry, Draco and Neville have been raised as friends--the Next Marauders.

Is it totally a bad idea?

Randomness -

RPG is fun.  And addictive.  (I actually considered making FH2 one, but there lies madness)  Just wish I had access at work, cause we're all so far apart that by the time I get home, several of the main players are asleep, or should be, which means we get at most two or three responses a day.

[info]titti is redoing The Thin Line, and will be including all Snape/M Black pairings on the site.  It will be lovely to have easily accessible Severus/Regulus fics.

Posted The Proper Way (LM/RB) and Ribbons (HP/DM) over at the Archive.  Both NC-17.

Been reading a ton of Manga lately (Thank you, Anne... ;D).  So many Manga, so little time. :D  Some favorites?  Eriee Queery, Nana, Paradise Kiss, Alice 19th, Ceres...  I'm sure that's not all, but I'm very much enjoying what I'm finding, generally. :)

And a last bit.

My to do list for the weekend:
    Start [info]hd_directory bios
Finish the first edit of Chrysalis
Write two more sections of Velvet Captivity
    Edit Foodie's next chapter

Memeage gacked from my love, <lj user

Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have less than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.

More HBP fun

[info]violet_quill went through her f-list and tried to figure out what this book sounded like to those who were reading spoilers but still hadn't read the book.  Go check it out Here.
And yes, it is spoilery, if you couldn't tell.

So, before reading HBP, I thought of a question I wanted to ask everyone, so I thought I'd post a new set of questions now that I'm done.  Some of the questions may be spoilery, and the answers almost definately will, so read at your own risk if you haven't finished the book.

This is the one to read.  And yes, there are spoilers.  I won't say more than that, but if you haven't read the book, don't click.

Okay, coming down... *Major HBP Spoilers, read at your own risk*

Well, first of all:

where to begin... )

I'm done.  And numb.

No spoilers for those reading yet, though if people want to talk, feel free to comment.  Those not wanting spoilers probably shouldn't look.

Feel free to chat about HBP...

[No Subject]

Well, I was going to wait until six, but I can tell it's time...

I shouldn't be gone too long.  I read pretty fast.  And I will be posting my story at some point, and also my weekly recs.  So I won't be totally gone, I just won't be checking my flist until I've finished. :)  See you all in a few!

Well, in 14 hours, I should have the book...

I've just finished my Veela!Draco fic, now titled "What's Done Is Done."  Sent it off to the betas.  We'll see what happens. I hope to have it posted here by the end of the weekend.  We'll see.

I'm scared to look at my flist.  I know some people either have the book or will have it in a very short amount of time.

Spoilers and other Fan-fic things

Not sure if it's been stated here on my lj much, but I *HATE* spoilers.  I will be doing all my chatting about HBP elswhere for a great long time.  And it will probably take me quite a while before I post any stories in the new canon.  As it is, I'm scurrying to finish as many of my old-canon stories as I can before Friday.  (Two at most, probably)

So, that said.  I thank those on my flist who are trying to be conscientious about all this, and I promise that I will make sure to post major spoiler warnings about anything I do write or rec that is set in the new canon.  Possibly for a lot longer than the end of the month, just because I know there will be plenty of people out there who won't have it yet, for whatever reason, and I don't want them to feel like they can't be on their livejournal any more.

The two stories I've been working on are a short I've been calling Snape's Son, which is post war, and just a little ficlet, if I can finish it.  And the other is my Harry/Draco Veela story.  Yeah, yeah, I know.  Cliche, cliche.  But I'm hoping I've at least made it my own.  I have three more chapters to go, maybe four, so I'm really going to try to have it finished by Friday.  HOWEVER...I need two things.  One is that the story just does NOT want to name itself.  So any suggestions on that end would be most helpful.  And two, I currently have two people who are willing to read it for me, but I'd really like more eyes to check it for me, because it is such a cliche, and everyone has different gripes in the fandom.  It would be nice to have a bunch of different people look at it.  Anyone interested?

ETA: Does the title "Loved Not Wisely" seem too cliche? And would it help if I said it didn't particularly refer to Harry and Draco?

Writing update

Well, I seem to be getting somewhere.  I've finished two pages so far this morning, though those only count towards yesterday, so I still have three pages to go.  I can do this.

On another note, who thought that the boy in COMC in book 5 was Blaise, and who thought it was Theo?  The first time I read it, I assumed it was Blaise, but now that's she's said it was Nott...  I'm kind of at a loss, really.  I tend to see Theodore Nott as a slightly smallwer version of Crabbe and Goyle, while I see Blaise sort of as a darker version of Draco, with not as much power.  But apparently JK says that Nott is smarter than Draco....  Hmmm....  I don't know that I like that implication. :S

Starting to feel the crunch

Okay, even though they haven't yet announced a date for book 6, I'm starting to feel the crunch.  The main problem being that all my stories seem to be long ones.

So, as of now, my main focus is on Finding Harry & the Silver Cycle, just because they're actually posted out there.

Beyond that, I'd like to finish my Veela!Draco story, Strangers Till Now (Draco's being an ass, and doesn't want to cooperate.  I think he's just protesting that it's het. ;) ), and Winter Flowers.  I don't know that I'll ever finish the sequel to Snapshots.  The fic was so perfect on its own, and I'm thinking a sequel could kill it.  I might write the SS/RL prequel, though.

I also have several stories I'd like to start before it's too late.  We'll see....

Marauder mentions in SS/PS

So, I was listening to PS today at work, and in the scene where McGonagall is berating them for being out of bed she says, and I quote: "Four students out of bed in one night! I've never heard of such a thing before!" Now, I have heard these tapes so many times, and it has always just passed right over my head. How on earth could I have missed it? I mean, what is the first thing one should think of when one thinks of four Hogwarts students out of bed at once? Why, the Marauders, of course...

I laughed out loud when I realized it today. Hopefully I wasn't as loud as I thought. Now the question is, was it intentional, and if so, why, or was that one of those lucky writer's breaks that just sometimes happen in stories like this? I'd like to think JK did it on purpose, for us to find after reading POA. :) Kinda like Sirius's Motorbike.

Reading again

Finished Depths of winter today.  Great fic.  Go read it.

And in other book news, I am now a proud owner of all five Harry Potter books!  Yay! :D
