This week's <lj comm

What are your five favorite villains (and why)?

In HP
  1. Draco Malfoy - There's just something enticing about a villain that has the possibility of redemption.
  2. Lucius Malfoy - Because, even irredeemable, he's powerful, blond, and hell, because he's played by Jason Isaacs.
  3. Severus Snape - Okay, not really technically a villain per se, but he doesn't get along with Harry, so he's not a "good guy" either.  He's just so complex.
  4. Bellatrix Lestrange - I don't write her much, or even read her enough.  But I do find her fascinating.  She's a woman in a world where she's surrounded by men, and she's obviously got more power than the men in her family (look at the description of her husband and brother-in-law in GOF).  We've only heard of two women DEs so far, I believe, and that makes her pretty unique.
  5. Narcissa Malfoy - Only vaguely counts as a villain, but she's against Harry, so there you go.  One would think, with her name, her major concern would be saving her own arse, but she honestly seems to care for her son and for her husband, and you have to admire that.
Others:
  1. Diana from V.  She was just a little self-absorbed, honestly! :D  She was always fun to watch, because even though she thought she was slick and in charge, someone always managed to see through whatever scheme she was up to.
  2. Winnowill from Elfquest. Evil with a capital EV. :P  I love her look: tall and slender, pale skin and hair longer than she is tall.  I love her confidence, even if she's actually internally as mad as Bellatrix Lestrange is, because she never allows her weakness to show, even as madness.  And Power, Power, Power.
  3. Miss Parker from the Pretender.  Another who had the possibility of redemption.  I loved her snootyness, but also how the memory clips show just how open and trusting she was as a girl.
  4. Ra in Stargate the movie.  Oh, lovely evil.  How can I not enjoy watching Jaye Davidson play an Egyptian god? :D  I can't wait to see who they get to be the villain in the next movie.
  5. Drusilla in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.  Crazy evil.  And siring your grandsire?  How effing cool is that? :D
See?  I like girls!  Just not...HP ones much.

What 5 shows did you continue watching after they jumped the shark? Why?

1> Buffy - Dawn was a pretty big one, but to top the season off, Buffy died...  Pretty big shark, if you  ask me.  But even after Buffy returned the next season, Joss still managed to deal with things in a realistic and enjoyable way.

2> Angel - Connor.  WTF?  I mean, vampires really do not go around having babies.  Just doesn't happen.  And then to grow him up overnight, and after a year of dealing with him, suddenly make everyone (but Angel) forget him?  Yikes.  But even despite the threat of his show being cancelled, Joss still hung in there, and the characters were as interesting and well-written as always.

3> Pretender - Well, aside from Brigitte, who just wasn't up to the standards of the rest of the cast, we also had "Oh, by the way, Jarod has a brother..." who he'd never mentioned up till that moment, and I don't care how they explained it, that just rang false.  But I couldn't help but watch.  I still saw Jarod/Miss Parker as one of the sweetest couples I've seen on a show in a long time.

4> ST: Voyagoer - Seven of Nine.  Who was not so much Borg as Breast-Implant-Woman.  My friend and I still refer to those later seasons as "The Seven of Nine Show, Starring Captain Janeway."  By the end, at least 75% of the plots revolved around them.  But I couldn't help but watch.  It was Star Trek.  There is only one Star Trek Series I have not seen all the episodes to, and that was Enterprise.  It just got too painful.

5> Charmed - I've since stopped watching it, though that might not have happened had they not continued to try putting it across from my other shows...  The Death of Prue and discovery of Paige.  Uh, since when can the power of three be transfferred?  But I liked her well enough.  I still wanted Prue back more often than not, but I watched...for a season.

ETA Like my new Willow Icon? I made it myself.

New realization:

I love bitches, specifically evil bitches.  Winnowill in Elfquest, Diana in V, Miss Parker in Pretender.  And Bella seems to fit the bill.  So why don't I find myself drawn to her at all?  I mean, she's interesting, in an evil, sadistic way.  But I'd rather play with Snape or Draco anyday.  What does that say about me?
