NaNo Drabble: Leaving Home - G

So, for my NaNoWriMo this past year, I did another original piece, and so I didn't post it here because publishers generally don't like that. But I just got inspired to do a drabble (and a picture on Polyvore), so I thought I'd post that, so you could get a tiny glimpse of my world.

Gabriel (Bothwick) is in his very early twenties, the son of an Earl who's recently made a bit of a mess of his politics, so his mother is sending him on a trip with his fiancee, Priscilla Francis and their chaperone is a man who was his tutor before going off to school, Abdel Tinely.

This piece takes place shortly before my story begins.

“Oh, do stop sulking, Gabriel. It is merely a trip. When we return, you will simply sulk that the trip wasn’t nearly long enough. Now stop whining and sit. It’s a long way to Manchester, and we still need to pick up Miss Francis.”

Tinely glowered at the boy. Truly, did he think this a punishment? Had Tinely been given the opportunity to travel at his age, he’d have jumped at it, but the only opportunity he had ever been given was to tutor Gabriel and his siblings. It had meant a more comfortable life than before, but it had also meant staying in England.

Tinely was no less nervous than Gabriel, though he refused to show it. All he could hope was that Catrina’s dire predictions of what might happen on their journey did not come true.

Gabriel finally settled into his seat, still staring out the window with sad eyes. Tinely tapped the roof of their carriage, and winced at the jerk as the carriage started into motion.

Surprises or not, this would be a long trip. He’d be surprised if he did not want to kill the boy himself by the end of it all.

I just wanted to make the Tinely set, but then he started speaking to me about "the brat" so I had to write it out. ;D
